Miami River

Miami River

The Miami River, accessed from the south end of Lewey Lake, flows through the Adirondack backcountry and is home to wild brook trout. The river is passable for 1 mile upstream from the lake.

Getting there

A beach launch for smaller boats is located at the Lewey Lake State Campground on Rt. 30, 14 miles north of the village of Speculator.

The DEC's Lewey Lake campground, on Route 30, is the only location for a trailer launch on Lewey Lake.

Fishing

Northern pike are sought in the big weed bed where the Miami River enters the lake. Lake trout can be found in the deep waters of mid-lake. Many rocky shorelines attract smallmouth bass.

The river, though not the lake, has a few areas of opportunities for brown trout.

Birding

Spring and summer are good times for roadside birding among the wetlands and mixed forest habitats.
