Round Pond is scenic backcountry body of water near Indian Lake. The views are a great reward, but the trail is a worthy destination as well.

Hiking to Round Pond

The trail starts on an old access road before reaching a foot trail. Cross the bridge, take a left at the intersection, and continue on the dirt road for around 1.25 miles, where it become a state foot trail. This trail will come in on the left and the road will continue. From here the trail gets a bit wet. In about a half mile, keep right at a trail junction, then continue on the trail until the outlet for Round Pond, at around 2.7 miles in. Another option to see Round Pond is via the Kunjamuk Trail.

Round Pond in the winter

You will likely need to break trail, particularly at the left turn to head towards Round Pond. Take care around the frozen pond, especially if you snowshoe or ski here during shoulder season or around inlets/outlets. Be prepared for all winter conditions.

How to get there

From the intersection of Route 28 and Route 30 in Indian Lake, follow Route 30 toward Speculator for 0.5 miles and turn left on Big Brook Road. Follow that for 6.6 miles to a road with a steel bridge on the right. There is a trail marker located here, but no sign. Park here.
