Echo Cliff-Panther Mountain

Echo Cliff-Panther Mountain

This is a very popular hike located near Piseco, NY, with easy terrain. The trail to this popular destination is well worn and occasionally steep. An open grassy area and ledges provide spectacular views across Piseco Lake to Spy Lake and the Silver Lake Wilderness.

Getting there

From NY 8 at the south end of Piseco Lake, go north on West Shore Rd for 2.6 miles. You will see a DEC sign for Panther Mountain on the left. There is parking on the side of the road.

By the numbers

  • Distance, round trip: 1.8 miles
  • Elevation gain: 670 feet

Hiking and snowshoeing

Leaving the road and passing the register, the trail climbs rather steeply along a slope. It levels off in a col after half a mile. From here, the trail continues uphill, passes a small creek, and turns left before approaching the steepest part of the ascent.

There are great views from the cliffs. As the name suggests, this hike leads to a cliff and you should take care near the edge.
