Sacandaga Lake

Sacandaga Lake

Sacandaga Lake (not to be confused with Great Sacandaga Rerservoir) and Lake Pleasant are connected by a channel, though travel between the two lakes might only be possible when water is high. The lake covers an area of 1,608 acres and has a mean depth of 28 feet. There are a lot of places for fish to hide here!

How to get there

Access is a beach launch at Moffitt Beach State Campground. It is located off of Route 8 on Page Street, 4 miles west of Speculator.

Fishing

There are good populations of brown and rainbow trout in both waters, thanks to liberal stocking.  Because of a stable food supply, the trout grow big in these waters. There are large numbers of small mouth bass, and pickerel can be found in weedy areas. Walleye fishing is good early in the season.

A note to anglers

Spiny waterflea, an aquatic invasive species, is present in this waterbody. Please make sure to clean, drain, and dry all boats and equipment to prevent any spread.
