You may be thinking “I’m getting the winter blues and I need a vacation,” and I know the first thing that pops into your head is somewhere tropical, but why not try something different? The Adirondacks has so much fun to offer right now! Here are the top 4 ways to enjoy winter in the Adirondacks

4. Ice fishing

You’re ready to go ice fishing! Bundle up in some warm clothes and you’ll be all set to head out on the ice. Make sure to check the ice for safety before you wander out. 3. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing

If you like to keep things a little low key, and really take in the scenery around you, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing may be more your speed. We have lots of great places to experience. Fern Park in Inlet has 22km of marked, groomed cross-country ski trails, 2km of which are lighted until 10 p.m.! You can also head to Lapland Lake Cross-Country Ski Center in Benson, which boasts 50km of trails for skiing and snowshoeing. There are also plenty of other great trails around the Adirondacks to ski and shoe. Ask at one of our great outdoor outfitters.

2. Downhill skiing

Oak Mountain is your premiere destination for downhill skiing. This small, family owned mountain is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the real world. It is a great spot if you’re looking to learn how to ski or snowboard. They have a great ski school, and it’s affordable! It is a great place for a family outing. They have 22 trails ranging from easy to difficult. Why spend your whole day waiting in lines when you can head to Oak and get right on the quad chairlift to the top?

1. Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is one of our main winter attractions. Whether you are a seasoned rider or just finding your passion for snowmobiling, the Adirondacks is a great place to start! Hamilton County has over 750 miles of snowmobile trails for you to explore. Trailer your sleds here or visit Speculator's Village Motor Sports or Inlet’s Clark's Marina to rent. Make sure to take advantage of the trails that head straight to the local restaurants. You’ve got to keep up your energy for the day!
